Meet Stevie Hosler

For readers drawn to stories that are unhinged, emotional, and shocking in all the right ways, it’s time to meet Stevie Hosler—a paranormal fantasy author bringing dark, nostalgic lore back to life.

Her work leans into the eerie, the emotional, and the beautifully chaotic, crafting stories that feel both haunting and deeply human.

Storytelling has always been Stevie’s purpose. From writing her first short story at age nine to building a career in journalism and technical writing, she’s always been driven by words. Though life took her down a few different paths, she’s found her way back to creative writing—and she knows it’s exactly where she’s meant to be. Over 12 years in the making, Shadow of Lilith, her debut novel, is the culmination of that journey: a deeply personal, atmospheric return to the kind of vampire stories that first captured her imagination.

Outside of writing, Stevie is the version of herself her 14-year-old self would think is incredibly cool: surrounded by books and comics in her extensive home library, covered in tattoos, still showing up to punk concerts, and balancing it all with a cozy love of cross-stitch and a lifelong obsession with Friends. She’s also an expert in data privacy and risk management, proving that creativity and precision can coexist beautifully.

Stevie lives in Pittsburgh with her husband, son, and their four cats. When she’s not writing, she’s reading fantasy, sci-fi, dark academia, or graphic novels, baking something delicious, or supporting her local book community as a Silent Book Club chapter chair and Little Free Library steward.

Get to know Stevie Hosler as we dive into a quick Q&A and explore the passion, nostalgia, and dark magic behind her stories.

Q&A

  1. Could you share some insights into your writing process? Do you have any rituals or habits that help you stay productive and creative?

I am a plantser. I don't write linear. I write my insighting incidents and then fill in. It seems less daunting to me to travel to smaller points in the book than to have to write from the beginning to the end. I also just write what I'm in the mood to write on any given day or if a scene is becoming so clear to me, I write it while it's standing out to me. I need coffe and I mostly write at coffee spots or on my deck if the weather allows.

  2. How do you create complex and relatable characters in your novels? Are there any specific techniques or inspirations you draw from when developing their personalities, motivations, and arcs?

I honeslty let my characters take the lead and tell me who they are. I’m inspired by my favorite characters from other books, tv, movies. As I'm writing them, I let things reveal themsleves to me. My characters are far more in charge of my books than I am!

  3. How do you connect with your readers? Do you have any memorable interactions or experiences with fans that stand out to you?

The most memorable moment I have had so far happened at Pgh Bookfest. I was there as a reader, but I took my guest book (a copy of Shadow of Lilith that I take to signings for fans to sign) for the authors to sign. I was in line to meet Mai Corland, Sarah Glen Marsh, and Kamilah Cole and I saw someone wearing a Buffy the Vampire Slayer shirt, which my book is inspired by. I called them over and offered a bookmark from my book. When I opened my book tote, Shadow of Lilith was on top and her friend said "Don't tell me what happens! I'm reading that book right now!" I was like “Oh my....I wrote it!” She had just checked it out at the library and it just tickled me so much to run into someone in the wild currently reading the book.

  4. What future projects or ideas are you excited about? Can you give us a sneak peek into what you’re working on next?

I am currently drafting the sequel to Shadow of Lilith. Blood of Lilith will wrap up this duology, but the series itself will continue with other characters. I'm working on the world building for a series of sapphic romantasy books. They will be standalones in the same world. I have the cover for book one and some character art! I am also outlining a zombie apocalypse book that I'm so excited about. The vibe is the video game Borderlands meets The Walking Dead meets WWE. It's going to be wild.

  5. Can you tell us about a scene or character that was particularly challenging to write? How did you overcome those challenges?

I just wrote the first scene introducing the big bad for the Shadow of Lilith duology. I spent book one building up to meeting Lilith so there is a lot of pressure in bringing her to life. It took me two weeks to write the scene and I had to do what I always do with my characters and just let her tell me who she is and let go of my fear of how dark I was willing to go. Once I became comfortable with that, it got easier.
